This is the distinctive Centraal Station in Rotterdam, the main railway station of the city. It was officially opened in March 2014.
The construction took nine years and cost 633 million euros! It was a huge collaboration between Benthem Crouwel Architects, MVSA Architects and West 8 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture.
The surface of this public terminal is 46.000 m2. Its spacious indoor plaza consists of 25 appealing retail stores such as Rituals, Sissy Boy, Starbucks, Feyenoord Fanshop, Leonidas chocolate and more.
The highest point of the station hall is 30 meters. Do look up occasionally and admire the glass fractures.
The roof is equipped with 136.000 solar cells, one of the largest rooftop solar projects in Europe.
The letters CENTRAAL STATION and the station clock on the front façade were two features from the former station building (1957) by Sybold van Ravesteyn.
Rotterdam Centraal Station is one of the most important transport hubs in The Netherlands. It provides supports to 110.000 passengers a day.
Definitely one of the most iconic buildings in Rotterdam!!
