It is centrally located at Haarlem’s Grote Markt (big square) and one of the major establishments in the city center since 1879. The interior still has that old grandeur restaurant feel of the past. Its huge terrace facing the busy market square makes it the best café to people watch in Haarlem. My usual habit is a cup of tea (€2.40) or hot chocolate milk (€2.80) with a cake on the side. Available on the menu are apple pie (€4.00) or chocolate cake (€4.00) without or with whipped cream (+€0.70) to choose from. You can never go wrong with a piece of Dutch apple pie!In case you are wondering …
The Grand Café Brinkmann’s menu is adequately filled with local favorites. You will find dishes such as carpaccio, goat cheese salad, Dutch croquettes, burger, steak, satè, cheese fondue, fried prawns and fish stew on the list.
Breakfast is served from 8am till noon, followed by long lunch hours from 10am to 5pm. Dinner starts at 5pm and ends at 9pm. Soups and meal size salads are available for most part of the day. Expect to pay €13.50 for a beef burger with fries and up to €21.50 for a tender steak served in gravy with bread and salad.
Otherwise, enjoy a couple of regional beers from the tap or bottle with Dutch bitterballen snack (€6.50 for 8pcs).Grand Café Brinkmann has been acclaimed as ‘the living room of Haarlem’. There is no better place to watch Haarlem goes by. Ideal restaurant for locals, out of towners or tourists any time of the day.
