The Bloemenmarkt or Flower Market in Amsterdam is the world’s only floating flower market.
Located on the Singel canal between the Koningsplein and the Muntplein, these stores are floating on the water in houseboat-like structures resting on permanently anchored barges.
There are approximately 15 stores selling similar merchandise such as seeds, bulbs, fresh flowers, plants and extensive range of souvenirs. It is a shopping paradise for tourists and prices are very competitive. Just walk further to another store to peek at the price tags.
If you are buying bulbs to bring back home, make sure you understand the Customs rules and regulations. It has to do with the packaging or a certain stamp on the packet for custom declaration. Ask the seller about it.
There is a slight chance of getting old & moldy bulbs when you buy them during off-season. It makes sense!
The most interesting product sold is the Cannabis Starter Kits. Good luck bringing them back to your country and certainly there is no guarantee that they will even grow. Nonetheless, great for novelty photo.
Opens daily from 8am till around 7pm.
Take the tram line 1,2 or 5 in front of Amsterdam Central Station and alight at Koningsplein.
